Marty Jopson: a better appreciation of the world around you

Marty Jopson studied for his Ph.D. in Plant Cell Biology at the John Innes Institute in Norwich. This entailed spending 3 and a half years dismantling microscopes, arguing and being scared by large men with knives at slaughter houses where he had to go to collect pigs’ brains.

Marty is a regular presenter on the BBC’s ONE show. As a professional science communicator, he works in three main fields: presenting TV programmes, performing stage shows and building bespoke props for TV shows and museums. He also helps run the Otley Science Festival.
